About Our Classes and Camps

At Bagaduce Music, we’re getting the music out of the stacks and into the community.
From September to June, we offer Group Classes, Guided Ensembles and Jams.
In July and August, we offer fun camps and programs that anyone can enjoy.

Groups meet once a week in Blue Hill, Belfast, Rockland or Deer Isle, September through June. Camps meet for a week or weekend in the summer and mostly in Blue Hill.

Our Magic Formula: Our magic formula is to provide group lessons and ensembles at half the price -or less- of what a private lesson would cost. The inspiration of working together in a group provides motivation, accountability with your peers, and a chance to practice see-do-teach. This community learning model is based on the experience many of our teachers have growing up learning and teaching in here in Maine. And we have seen it work! We think it’s a great way to get a person – and a whole community – making music.

Fees: Private lessons are typically $60/hour or more and are entirely planned and given by teachers when they have availability. Most weekly classes are $35/week and run for 1 hour. With multi-class and multi-student discounts, some people are able to take classes for about $21/week/class. If you take advantage of the early bird 10% discount, that can knock it down even more.

We are proud of being able to offer inspiring, relatively affordable music-learning for folks, and a key is that we’re a nonprofit organization and raise money each year from individuals and businesses to help make all of this happen.  We want to thank you now for investing in classes here. It has made a huge difference in many people’s lives, from teachers to staff to the students themselves who are growing and improving- audibly – every week.

We do have a 1-time registration fee when you register for classes, which is the same, $25 no matter how many classes you’re registering for. This helps cover the time and effort we put into managing the backend of class admin.

Discounts & Scholarships: We offer discounts for multiple-class and multiple-student families, as well as scholarships.  Discounts will automatically be applied by Jackrabbit, our registration system. Please email education@bagaducemusic.org to request a scholarship or a work-trade assignment. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

How You’ll Be Charged: When registering, you have the option to sign up for automatic online billing or to pay by check. You’ll have the option to pay for the semester in full (and save a few bucks) or to pay in equal monthly installments. For simplicity of accounting, the monthly fee is determined by the total number of months, not the number of classes happening that month. If you enroll in monthly payments, you’ll still be ‘registered’ for the whole semester and will be charged according to your preference. It’s our top priority to keep our music classes affordable and accessible to the community, and we appreciate your patience as we shift to a system that is more sustainable for all. We welcome your feedback!

Refund Policy: Because our course offerings and teacher contracts are determined by registration numbers at the beginning of the semester, refunds cannot be guaranteed after the first two weeks of a class. If you choose to withdraw from a class before the second half of term, a partial refund may be awarded based on your payment plan or credits available and the total size of the class. Refunds cannot be awarded in the second half of the term.

Trial Period/Drops: You may try out a class for two weeks!  If it doesn’t suit you we will return the rest of the course fee to you, minus a cancellation fee. If you want to sit in on a class for a week with no charge, feel free to drop by and check it out.
