BAGADUCE MUSIC PRESENTS FINNISH FOLK FIDDLE GROUP, FRIGG, IN THREE PERFORMANCES
BLUE HILL – Bagaduce Music will present the Helsinki-based fiddle group, Frigg, in three performances in August. They will be performing on the 13th in Belfast, the 14th on Little Deer Isle, and on the 15th in Brooksville.
Credited with creating its own style fusing Nordic folk and American Bluegrass, this Scandinavian export has found widespread appeal among the folk, world, and classical fans alike. They will be performing on the Blue Hill peninsula and in Belfast to kick-off their tour of the United States and Canada.
“Bagaduce Music is so excited to be launching Frigg’s North American tour”, says Executive Director Teresa Myrwang. “This Finnish band specializes in a unique fusion of western folk music, with a focus on the traditions of Finland and Norway. We are so fortunate to have this world-class group sharing their talents in Maine this summer.”
During its more than twenty years together, Frigg has released nine albums and performed on numerous Asian, European, and North American tours. It is considered one of the best-known Finnish folk acts in the world.
According to Andrew Cronshaw of Roots magazine, “…this is the essence of what the Finnish fiddling fuss is about. The band flies, in a mix of traditional and their own tunes, all shapely, ingenious, and delivered with acute mastery and massive swing and energy.”
The 5:30pm event on Saturday, August 13, is a collaboration with the Belfast ‘Summer Nights’ series and will take place at the Steamboat Landing Park & Gazebo. A participatory dance will follow the concert in collaboration with the Belfast Flying Shoes. Donations will be accepted at the event.
The event on Sunday, August 14, is at a private residence on Little Deer Isle and two ticket prices are being offered. $250 tickets include a 6pm catered reception and is a fundraiser benefitting Bagaduce Music. Due to popular demand, a “concert only” ticket is now available for $40 for the 7pm concert.
The sold-out event on Monday, August 15 at 6pm, takes place at Tinder Hearth in Brooksville. There is a waitlist for this event.
More information and ticketing for the performances can be found at bagaducemusic.org or by calling 374-5454.
Bagaduce Music’s mission is to collect, preserve and lend printed sheet music and to promote the appreciation, knowledge, and performance of music.
