Blue Hill Pops

A Tradition Like No Other

Blue Hill Pops 2020

Enjoy a replay of the event!

We’ve re-imagined Blue Hill Pops for 2020!

For the past 30 years, we have produced a summer event known as the Blue Hill Pops Concert. It drew heavily from the vast local talent pool on the Blue Hill Peninsula and beyond, featuring such luminaries as Paul Sullivan, Noel Paul Stookey, Flash in the Pan, New Trad Trio, Tim Sample, Ellacappella and too many others to name. In many ways, the concert, always on July 3rd, heralded the beginning of summer in this region for locals and summer folk alike.

As this is the 30th year of Pops, we thought it would be fun and appropriate to recognize Maine’s 200th birthday as part of the festivities. The event would showcase some of Maine’s brightest musical talent as well as some other surprises. Instead of a birthday cake, the staff sampled Whoopie pies with the idea of distributing them to the audience during a rousing rendition of the Maine State song.

As Executive Director Teresa Myrwang observed:

“Then March arrived and so did COVID-19. We made the decision to re-imagine Pops – the celebration will go on! Pops is our signature Friends and Fund-raising event. We rely on this event more than any other to support our operations and programming. We put our heads together to devise a way to bring music to our community in a new way. Our plan is to have the same Pops performers we had scheduled, but instead of on the stage at George Stevens Academy, we will sell tickets to a link on the Bagaduce Music YouTube channel to view the concert on the evening of July 3rd.  That way, you will be able to view the concert on your computer in the comfort of your home.”

In recent years we have run a successful auction and dinner prior to the concert. While a dinner isn’t possible this year, there will be an online auction with nearly 75 items ranging from an afternoon cruise on a Concordia yawl in local waters, to a private house concert with a Paul Sullivan, to a guided hike in one of the many protected preserves on the Peninsula followed by brunch at Aragosta. All proceeds from the auction will also go to support our operations.
