2016 Blue Hill Pops Concert to Feature Fiddler Andy Stein
Fiddler Andy Stein
Fiddler Andy Stein and pianist Conal Fowkes wowed the audience with their fabulous jazz performance at the 26th Annual Blue Hill Pops Concert! Sponsored by the Bagaduce Music Lending Library, this kick-off to the Blue Hill Peninsula's summer music season was held on Sunday evening, July 3 at George Stevens Academy. Other Blue Hill Pops performers included flamenco guitarist Gregoire de la Costa and flamenco dancer Lindsey Bourassa, The New Traditional Jazz Band with pianist Paul Sullivan and the Bagaduce Pops Singers under the direction of Bronwyn Kortge.
As the Powdermilk Biscuit Fiddler for twenty-two years on A Prairie Home Companion, Andy Stein’s
opening fiddling on the Powdermilk Biscuit ad is instantly recognizable to fans
of that show. Stein and Fowkes had the audience crying out for more and received Blue Hill Pops’s first standing ovation in 26 years. Fortunately, they returned in the second half of the show and joined the New Traditional Jazz Band for several numbers.
The Fuchsia Jazz Combo played welcoming music inside the gym beginning at 6:45, and the Big Moose Contra Dance Band entertained concert goers outside as they arrived. As always, Blue Hill Pops concluded with a patriotic finale featuring a sing-along of the nation's service songs and "America the Beautiful".
Corporate sponsors for the 2016 Blue Hill Pops Concert were Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Cape Air, Lambert Coffin Law Offices, PenAir and Stanley Subaru.
